Its Alaska operations include Craig, Ketchikan, Kodiak, False Pass, Naknek, Sitka, and Valdez.

Sourcing Challenges

Silver Bay Seafoods faced persistent difficulty sourcing experienced skilled trades professionals to support its fisheries and processing plants across remote Alaska locations. Many of these operations are based in very small towns, often with populations under 500, making local hiring extremely limited.

To keep plants operational during the fishing season, Silver Bay needed to bring in external talent for specialized roles such as Fleet Technicians, Plant Electricians, Refrigeration Technicians, Seamer Mechanics, and Baader Technicians responsible for maintaining food processing equipment.

Historically, Silver Bay relied heavily on Indeed. However, job boards struggled to effectively reach candidates outside of Alaska, even though many qualified technicians across the lower 48 were open to relocating seasonally for the right opportunity.

Solution

Silver Bay turned to Hireline to expand its reach beyond Alaska and tap into a nationwide pool of skilled technical talent.

Hireline directly took Silver Bay’s open roles and intelligently distributed them across major social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok. Rather than relying on candidates to search job boards, Hireline placed Silver Bay’s jobs directly in front of experienced technicians as they were scrolling social media.

By using targeting and intent-driven delivery, Hireline surfaced these roles to candidates across the U.S. who matched the required technical skill sets and were more likely to be open to seasonal relocation opportunities.

This approach allowed Silver Bay to access a much larger pool of qualified talent, including technicians in states where similar roles paid less, making seasonal work in Alaska financially attractive.

Hireline’s screening process ensured that candidates were pre-qualified on critical criteria, including willingness to relocate to Alaska for the fishing season, ability to work long seasonal hours, and hands-on experience relevant to each technical role.

Within a single day of launching campaigns, Silver Bay began receiving a strong influx of qualified candidate leads, with virtually no overlap from platforms like Indeed.

Results

What began as a shortage of skilled trades labor quickly turned into a surplus of qualified candidates. Silver Bay achieved more than 3x growth in qualified candidate flow within days, supporting over five critical technical roles across its Alaska operations.

With access to a much broader talent pool, Silver Bay’s recruiters were able to be selective, choosing the most qualified technicians rather than settling for limited options. Hireline enabled Silver Bay to transform a challenging seasonal hiring problem into a reliable and repeatable talent pipeline for its remote processing facilities.
