This post is a detailed guide on how to recruit using Facebook. It covers the options available to you, when to use one over the other, and a tutorial for each option.

Quick answer: You can publish a job on Facebook in 2 ways:

  1. Make a paid ad campaign (examples here). This costs money but you get more and higher quality candidates. Hireline automates this process for you, but you can definitely do this yourself without 3rd party software.
  2. Make a post to your Facebook page or within a Facebook Group (and optionally boost the post). This is the only free way to post to Facebook

Facebook no longer offers the exact same “Jobs” product it launched in 2017 (it shutdown in 2023). However Facebook/Meta can still bring you high quality applicants if you know the right workflow.

Prerequisites

To post on Facebook you'll need the items mentioned below (this only applies if you aren't using Hireline - we automate this for you):

  • A published Facebook (Meta) Page with admin access.
  • Meta Business Suite or Ads Manager access.
  • Link or landing page where candidates can finish their application (ATS, Google Form, Hireline etc.).
  • An image or short video that features the role and your brand logo.
  • Budget set aside if you plan to boost or advertise.

1) Launch a dedicated Employment ad campaign

This method costs money but it is also the best method to get your job post in front of a large and targeted audience on Facebook.

By using Meta's Ads Manager, you can create specific "Employment Ads" (or ads with a similar goal) designed to reach potential candidates.

Here are some examples of ads generated by Hireline's AI Ad Generator:

You can go to Facebook's Ad Library to see how other companies are using this strategy.

Step 1: Create a campaign in Facebook Ads Manager

Go to the Facebook Ads Manager (you'll need to be logged in to your account to access the Ads Manager) and create a campaign.

For the campaign object, you should choose Leads.

If you know you wish to run messenger ads then you can choose Engagement. If you're unsure, stick to Leads ads.

Next, use Recommended settings.

IMPORTANT: Set the campaign's category as "Employment"

If you do not correctly categorize your campaign in the Employment category, you run the risk of getting banned from Facebook. Make sure to properly set this!

You can leave all other options as-is and click Next.

Step 2: Choose location & daily ad budget

You should have your adset selected. If you don't you can select the adset by clicking here.

Make sure to set your daily budget.

Also restrict your ad to the locations you're recruiting for

Click Next to begin editing your ad

Step 3: Create & Upload your ad

Make sure that you have your ad selected.

Then, upload your image for the ad or a video for the ad. If you don't have one, you can use Hireline to automatically generate an ad for you.

Then, create your form which lets you choose which questions you'll ask the candidate

Step 4: Review & Launch

Review and Launch: Double-check everything and submit your ad for review. Once approved, it will start running.

Congratulations! You've now launched your first recruitment campaign.

Pros:

  • Maximum Reach & Visibility: Gets your job in front of a significantly larger audience than organic posts.
  • Precise Targeting: Allows you to target specific demographics, skills, interests, and locations, increasing the relevance of candidates.
  • Performance Tracking: Ads Manager provides detailed analytics to track impressions, clicks, cost per result, and more, allowing you to optimize.
  • Attracts Passive Candidates: Reaches people who aren't actively job searching but might be open to new opportunities.
  • Higher Quality & Volume: As mentioned, this method often yields more, and often more suitable, candidates.

Cons:

  • Cost: This is a paid method, and costs can add up depending on your budget, targeting, and competition.
  • Complexity: Ads Manager can be overwhelming for beginners with its numerous options and settings.

2) Post the job on your Page and in separate Facebook groups

This is the primary free (or low-cost, if you choose to boost your post) way to share your job openings on Facebook. It relies on your existing network and the communities within Facebook Groups.

How to do it:

A. Posting on Your Facebook Page:

  1. Craft Your Post:
    • Write an engaging status update. Start with a hook – "We're hiring!" or "Join our team!"
    • Clearly state the job title, key responsibilities (2-3 bullet points), essential requirements, and location.
    • Include information about your company culture or unique selling points of the job.
    • Crucially, provide a clear call to action and a link where people can apply (your ATS, careers page, Google Form).
  2. Add Visuals: Attach the image or short video you prepared. Posts with visuals get significantly more engagement.
  3. Use Hashtags: Include relevant hashtags like #Hiring, #JobOpening, #[YourIndustry]Jobs, #[YourCity]Jobs.
  4. Encourage Shares: Ask your followers to share the post with their networks.
  5. Pin the Post: Consider pinning the job post to the top of your Page's feed for better visibility while the position is open.
  6. (Optional) Boost Your Post:
    • After posting, Facebook will likely offer you the option to "Boost Post."
    • Boosting involves paying to show your post to a wider audience beyond your current followers. You can set a budget, duration, and do some basic targeting (location, interests).
    • This is a simpler form of paid advertising than a full Ads Manager campaign.

B. Posting in Facebook Groups:

  1. Find Relevant Groups: Search for groups related to job seekers in your area, your industry, or specific skill sets (e.g., "New York Marketing Jobs," "Remote Graphic Designer Community").
  2. READ THE GROUP RULES: This is critical. Many groups have specific rules about posting jobs (e.g., designated days, required formats, no direct links in the initial post). Violating rules can get your post removed or get you banned.
  3. Tailor Your Post (If Needed): While you can use a similar core message, slightly adjust the tone or emphasis for different groups if it makes sense.
  4. Post Your Job: Follow the group's guidelines. Include all essential information and the application link.
  5. Engage (If Appropriate): If people ask questions in the comments, respond professionally and promptly.

Pros:

  • Free (Mostly): Posting on your Page and in most groups is free. Boosting has a cost but can be controlled.
  • Utilizes Existing Network: Leverages your current Page followers and the established communities in groups.
  • Niche Targeting via Groups: Groups can connect you with highly specific or local talent pools.
  • Direct Engagement: Allows for direct interaction with potential candidates in comments.
  • Simpler Paid Option (Boosting): Boosting is less complex than full ad campaigns if you want a paid push.

Cons:

  • Limited Organic Reach: Facebook Page posts often have very low organic reach; not all your followers will see it.
  • Time-Consuming: Finding relevant groups, checking rules, and posting manually in multiple places can take a lot of time.
  • Variable Group Quality & Engagement: The effectiveness of group posting depends heavily on the group's activity, moderation, and member engagement.
  • Posts Get Buried: In active Pages and groups, your post can quickly get lost in the feed.
  • Some Groups Don't Allow Posts: Some Facebook Groups won't allow recruiters to post about jobs, so you'll need to find the groups that are allow for job posts.
  • Less Control: You have less targeting control and fewer analytics compared to dedicated ad campaigns (unless boosting).

Conclusion: Choosing the Right Facebook Strategy

Posting jobs on Facebook yourself in 2025 requires adapting to its current ecosystem.

  • For the widest reach and most targeted approach, a dedicated Employment Ad Campaign via Ads Manager is your best bet, provided you have the budget and are willing to navigate its complexities (or use a service like Hireline to manage it).
  • For a free or low-cost strategy, leveraging your Facebook Page and relevant Facebook Groups is essential. This requires consistent effort and community engagement but can yield good results, especially for local hiring. Boosting Page posts can offer a worthwhile lift.

Ultimately, the best approach might be a hybrid one. Understanding these different methods, their pros, and their cons will help you make the most informed decision for your recruitment needs. Good luck!
